'Report about my training-experiences in Baku from 5 until 22 December 2005.'
This is a rather good news story. Indeed the first two days at the school of journalism in Baku were pretty tough because I needed to find a balance between discipline and desire in attending the course. It turned out to be effective. On the third day it happened that almost every student arrived at ten o’clock in the morning. So it continued until the last day........'(more)

'A job for passionate people'
In the beginning was the word.
Then came sound
Then there was picture
At the end it was all mixed up in internet.

But most of all is the word.

Visit to Radio Contact Plus, Radio Prizren and Urban FN - Report and recommendation
On behalf of Press Now, I visited Kosova from the 17th till the 26th of March. Albana Shala asked me to visit Radio Contact Plus in Mitrovica and Urban FN in Pristina. Next she told me that Press Now is interested in knowing the possibilities for cooperation between Contact Plus, Urban FM and Radio Prizren. Also she demanded to discuss the need for training on the job. With the help of Nora Behluli, Press Now's representative in Pristina, I spent ten days all over the country to see the stations, to listen to the programs, to talk to staff and journalists and to find the answers.......'(more)

'Is het nieuws er voor de feiten?'
We praten vanavond over de stelling:
'Journalisten verwaarlozen hun kerntaak en dat is onafhankelijke, feitelijke verslaggeving. Lezers, luisteraars en kijkers - ons publiek - worden daarom steeds vaker slachtoffer van gevolgtrekkingen uit voorbarige conclusies óf van manipulatie door voorlichters en woordvoerders.'
Is dat zo?.......'(meer)

'Mission-report after an investigation to find possibilities to support the media in Transnistria'
On behalf of Press Now, I visited the self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria(TMR, short for 'Transnistrian Moldovan Republic') from the 24th till the 27th of june 2003. I stayed in Chisinau, capital of Moldova. Away from there, I visited cities like Tiraspol, Bender and Ribitna in Transnistria. It is rather easy to pass the borderline, where in a small primitive semi-permanent building some security- and custom-officers watch over the original, from the former Soviet-Union inherited values of their socialist republic.......'(more)

'Introductory address on the role of journalists and media in peace building'
First of all I want to tell you that I am a little bit confused. Looking through my files, I realized that in the recent years journalists and media more and more are considered as a panacea against all evil in society. I realized that there were appeals to journalists to join programs against corruption I saw reports about the task of a journalist as a promoter of good citizenship. I found papers about the role of journalists on covering minorities and inter-ethnic relations.......'(more)

'Summerschool Skopje august 30th until September 12th 2002 - a report'
During the preparation of the course, I showed hesitation and scepticism about the possible one-sided organization. But at the end, I was not unsatisfied at all. We started with 27 students and we finished with 19 - that's a rather good score and considering the eagerness and the mutual cooperation they showed an even promising score. Four of the students were from the SEE-university in Tetovo - but that's only for the record because differences did not show up. It cost me three days to drive the students that journalism is a deadline business and that they have to start at nine sharp. The fact that there was a memorial day on Monday the 9th and that every politician and civil servant was engaged with the elections, handicapped us a little bit......'(more)

'A report from a Press Now-visit to Macedonia with conclusions and recommendations about a possible improvement of a journalism education'
During April 24th till April 28th 2000, I paid in the company of Steven Assies(Press Now) and Phil Davis(The Thomson Foundation) a visit to Macedonia organised by Press Now in order to survey the alleged shortcomings of the media and the supposed lack of journalism training. My assignment was to be engaged in the printing press and to look after the possibilities for a (joined) curriculum and training at the faculty of journalism at the university of Skopje as well as the SEE-university-under-construction in Tetovo......'(more)

'Trainers report- Second part (3-11 June 2000) project, Prizren'
The second part of the course was attended by fourteen people - two less than the number by which we finished the first course. Jasminka Berisha changed her job within radio Prizren. Zlatko Velikic, a Serbian student-journalist from Orahovac, left for Belgrad and could not return in time. Thanks to a generous donation from PRESS NOW, a Dutch NGO from and for journalists that supports independent media in southeastern Europe, we (Kees Schaepman and me) were happy to carry fourteen Sony portable MiniDisc recorders to Gjilani and Prizren. The equipment was meant as a gift for the radio-stations and enabled me in the same time to train the students in a highly professional way.s......'(more)

'Trainers report- First part, 2 april-16 April 2000, Prizren'
The course was attended by initially eighteen people - to be precise and to avoid the word 'etnic', I hate: eleven Kosovo Albanians, two Kosovo Turks, one from the Kosovo Slavic Muslim Gorash minority in Dragash and four Kosovo Serbs from Orahovac. Because of the growing tension in Orahovac, when in the second week of april houses were burnt and Serbs demonstrated their suspicion against KFOR and the international organisations, two Kosovo Serbian students decided to stay away. So we finished the first part with sixteen students......'(meer)
